Playtime by the Lava Rocks
The west end of playa Esterillos Oeste has some pretty amazing lava rock formations that extend several hundred meters off the beach. These rock shelves provide an abundance of warm tide pools along the shore which are perfect for little ones to splash around and play in. We especially like to look for small crabs, fish, and sting rays swimming around the reef.
Nadi is still not convinced that clothing of any kind should get wet, so…
And of course, we were accompanied by some random dog wanting to play fetch in the ocean with Julie. About a month ago, a small white dog followed her home and sat at our front door for days just waiting for her to come outside, I would’ve felt bad except that this dog has a home, and is obviously well fed. Each time we’ve gone to the beach together I just watch as the dogs flock to her side and follow her around like she’s Cesar Millan. She loves it.
You can’t help but admire the beauty of these rocks, and imagine what this land must have looked like many, many years ago. It’s no wonder why couples come out here and seek out a tide pool of their own for a romantic afternoon on the beach. It’s pretty magical. :)
