We were on the highway and assumed there was an accident ahead as we looked onto a pile up of cars before us. Turns out this three-toed sloth decided to cross the road despite the oncoming traffic in both directions headed right toward him. Fortunately, the bus driver saw him and stopped. Not only did he stop, but he abandoned his vehicle full of passengers to take a five minute video with his phone until the sloth made it to the other side. PURA VIDA!
So now we have yet another creature to be mindful of as we’re cruising these roads – crabs, iguanas, toads and sloths!
It’s no wonder Jacó is one of the most visited destinations in Costa Rica. With it’s trendy restaurants, shops, beautiful beach, and rockin’ night life, it’s a perfect playground for the young and adventurous crowd. The two and a half mile strip ranks one of Costa Rica’s top ten beaches and is the surf mecca of the central Pacific coast. It’s absolutely breathtaking and only 15 minutes North of our home in Esterillos Oeste.
And if surfing’s not your thing, no worries, there’s enough to do ’round these parts to keep you plenty busy! Things like… ATV tours, horseback riding, crocodile safari, national parks and reserves, boat and kayak excursions, white-water rafting, canopy tours, bungee jumping, and let’s not forget the shopping…
If you’re into toucans, hot sun, a stunning beach, and happy hour this is your place! I found two gems here today, one was a little health food store that sells the flouride-free toothpaste we use (this means we don’t have to drive two hours into Alajuela for it, yeah!) and a shoe warehouse selling Steve Maddens and Michael Antonio’s for around 5000 colones ($1o) a pair. I almost missed the inconspicuous little shop but my spidey senses were tingling as I walked passed the door. :)
Must come back at night as soon as Ivan and I can successfully plan the great escape.
We found these shells and rocks one morning while walking along the beach. :)
