¡Feliz Día de la Madre!

In Costa Rica, Mother’s Day is celebrated on August 15th.  It’s a pretty big deal here as it coincides with the Catholic feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  I figured since back in May the family didn’t even remember it was Mother’s Day until sometime late in the afternoon, I would be a little more proactive about this second opportunity I’d been given.  >:)

I sent the whole family out to the best touristy, most souvenir-filled hot spot in Costa Rica: Jaco.  They were given a mission, to pick one item each for me, that was suited for me.  (Remember the episode of the Simpsons where Homer buys Marge a bowling ball as a gift with his name engraved on it?)   It’s best to be specific to ensure the absence of any possible future disappointment.  And I know what you’re thinking…  how superficially, materialistically, North American of you!  It was my last chance, people.  Don’t judge.  If it scores me any points I did ask for natural/yoga/zen-like gifts so I could enjoy my day with ~good~ karma.

Dude.  Operation: SUCCESS.  I highly recommend sending your loved ones out on scavenger hunts like this.  Totally erased disastrous Mother’s Day past.  The kids had SO much fun, and the gifts they chose were so thoughtful and wonderful.

My loot included beautiful earthy colored, mandala beaded clothing, essential oils, a drum (!!!), jewelry made of shells, a crock pot, and…

the Buddha.

Told you.  Good karma.
