Springtime in Esterillos

Rain season will soon be in full swing and the weather has already shifted for us here on the coast. The overcast sky and ocean breeze is a welcome relief from the super hot dry season we’ve had this year. As soon as the first rains come the animals are everywhere. Our property is full of lush bushes and mature trees so we get lots of wildlife visiting daily. Monkeys,  toucans, parrots, mot mots, armadillos, white-nosed coatis, lizards, it’s like the jungle was sleeping and it just woke up. This is my absolute favorite time of year in Costa Rica. All of the pictures below were taken in our yard, except the flower which was just up the road.

They’re Baaaaack!!!

It’s been months since I’ve seen them, but the toucans and capuchin monkeys are finally back!  As soon as the rains picked up around here they both returned.  The overcast skies are not so great for pictures and video, but I’m just happy to see them.  It’s a bit less jungl-y around here without them. :)

Hey Mother Nature, whaddup!

Crazy storm.  Didn’t she know we were all dressed and ready to go out to dinner?  Or that we had just spent over $300 on perishable groceries???!!!  Or how about that I was catching up on facebook something important when the power went out?  The nerve.

I didn’t get pictures of the downed wires up the road, or the trees that fell along the highway, still, you’ll get the idea just from looking at the yard.

The first thing the kiddos wanted to know was weather or not they still had a trampoline.  Oh, and also if they could grab all the sticks they wanted for playing. :)

The next morning… perfectly blue skies like it never even happened.  Well, except that we had no power for two days and the bird songs have been drowned out by chainsaws.  RIP perishable groceries.
